SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB
The harder we scrub the cleaner it will get.
Haven’t we all heard this while cleaning anything?
But is this true while brushing?
NO.
As important as it is to brush twice daily, it is equally important to brush properly.
Proper brushing means gently brushing all surfaces of teeth.
Brushing too hard or vigorously creates more problems. The most common problem of hard brushing is Cervical Abrasion (notches) of Teeth. Using hard brush also leads to cervical abrasion.
Cervical abrasion of teeth are the notch like depressions found on teeth near gums. They often lead to sensitivity.
This patient came to Happy Smiles Dental Clinic, Pune with the complaint of sensitivity on cold liquid. She had cervical abrasions (notches) on many teeth.
The patient had habit of vigorous brushing using a hard toothbrush. As all her cervical abrasions (notches) weren’t deep, we could fill them using tooth colored composite.
We advised her to change her toothbrush to soft. She was relieved of sensitivity too.
If these cervical abrasions (notches) are not treated, they will deepen leading to exposing nerve inside the tooth and pain.
Brushing gently and properly using a soft tooth brush will give you healthier teeth.
The more care you take of your teeth the longer they will serve you.
