Wash Wash Wash!
Something we all have been doing to make sure that we are safe from Corona virus disease.
Corona virus disease has created worry in everyone’s mind about cleanliness of any area.
But now it is time we learn to live with Corona and get our lives back on track.
The only way to get rid of this worry is to know all facts about cleanliness and sterilization techniques followed.
Sterilization is a process that eliminates, removes, kills, or deactivates all forms of life and other biological agents (such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, spore forms). All dental instruments used in our clinic are sterilized to prevent cross contamination and cross infection for all patients’ safety.
Ever wondered how the used instruments are sterilized?
Step 1: The used instruments are dipped in soap water for minimum 1 hour and then thoroughly cleaned.
Step 2: Then they are immersed in an enzyme cleaner solution for at least 2 hours. This solution is placed in an ultrasonic bath cleaner. After immersing it for 2 hours the instruments are cleaned using ultrasonic waves. This ensures that all debris is cleaned out and nothing is left on the instruments.
Step 3: After cleaning it with ultrasonic waves, the instruments are cleaned again under running water so as to remove residue of solution.
Step 4: These instruments are then dried and packed in pouches and are sealed. Now no organisms can enter these pack sealed pouches. These pouches are stamped with the date on which sterilization takes place.
Step 5: These pouched instruments are then sterilized using an autoclave. We have latest Class B autoclave which is the Gold Standard for sterilization of used dental instruments worldwide. Sterilization in autoclave kills all present organisms and also ensures that no organisms survive on the instruments. Once the instruments are sterilized, the pouches are kept properly and are opened only when required for a patient. The instruments are untouched as they are seal packed before sterilization.
We follow internationally accepted protocols for Sterilization of instruments used in our clinic since many years.
Along with sterilization of instruments it is equally important to do Sterilization Monitoring to check the quality and efficiency of sterilization.
Each sterilization cycle in our clinic is chemically monitored using chemical sterilization indicators present on sealed autoclave pouches and a sterilization indicator tape. Both the chemical indicators show colour change only if sterilization is done efficiently. This colour change is ensured before use of the sterilized instruments.
We have been doing third party Biological Sterilization Monitoring every month since 2015 and have been awarded certificate for proper sterilization technique by Tejas Lab in consultation with University of Louisville.

Not just sterilization, but also all disposables like disposable glass, gloves, headcap, shoecover are used. The equipments are wrapped in disposable plastic sleeves which are replaced with a new one after every patient.
The surfaces like dental chair, tables, working trays, door knobs etc are also disinfected using 3 different types of solutions.
In Happy Smiles Dental Clinic, along with instruments, surfaces and equipments even the air is fumigated everyday so as to ensure complete safety of patients, visitors and staff.
Proper Instrument Sterilization and infection control is one of the main criteria assessed in the process of NABH Accreditation of our clinic. Our clinic got NABH accredited in January 2017
What is NABH?
NABH is a constituent board of Quality Council of India, set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for healthcare organizations.
